Dream world lighting breakdown
My first film in a big visual effects studio was a long stint on Man of Steel, back in 2011-2012. I started on the show as a Modeler, taking on the big task of building and managing Smallville, modeling some car destruction, as well as the trainyard we see towards the end of the big fight sequence in town. Little did I know, it was the first in many shows where I'd be wrecking a lot of stuff on screen! Once the build stage was finished, I moved on to the Lighting department, and had my first experience with Renderman. These were pre-Katana days, and I quickly discovered Renderman for Maya could get VERY complicated! It was a great experience though, understanding a lot of what was happening under the hood, and that's helped me through difficult tasks I would come across in the future with lighting. All in all, it was a great first show within a large studio environment. I met a lot of very talented artists, many of which I still call friends today, which makes the entire experience worth it.
